In 2016, we were delighted to support English Heritage with their March into 1066. An epic re-enactment march to rival any Hollywood movie marked the milestone 950th anniversary of the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings. A band of 1066 warriors, dressed in authentic costume, travelled down from York to Battle in East Sussex on foot and horseback, following a route similar to that taken by King Harold’s army in 1066, arriving at Battle Abbey on 14 October, the day that the famous Battle of Hastings was fought 950 years earlier, ahead of the annual English Heritage re-enactment. Our role was to deliver all local authority and emergency services liaison on the route and support the riders and marchers on the ground across the crucial London leg. We also organised a pop up Norman encampment in London’s Hyde Park, to promote the event and draw attention to the work of English Heritage.
